PostgreSQL session at Percona live - deep dive into internals

Hi all,

There was a session at Percona live that I watched - didn’t note down speaker or topic… (Doh, slaps forehead…).

Anyway, it was this guy who went really down to the internals of PG - looking at records at the byte level and getting hex dumps and the like.

I’d really like to watch it again if anybody has seen it and has a link that would be great!

I don’t know what specific talk you’re talking about, however you can find the session on the schedule (Perhaps by speaker or title)

And then find the video recording on the website

All sessions will also be published on YouTube Percona

I found the session thanks:

It’s by a Percona engineer - Charly Batista, however the presentation doesn’t appear to be available.

Could I try emailing him? Or just generally with an FAO: here?

I understood that the presentation would be available after Percona Live.

Hi Charly - and thanks for getting back to me.

Unfortunately, I watched the session thinking that I’d get the recording in a couple of days - max, that’s what they (conference people who were answering questions during the session) were saying - so I thought that’d be fine.

I know the talk was about record organisation and you took a deep dive to look at how stuff was stored on disk - to the point of individual field boundaries… I was just trying to get the general gist of the talk without taking detailed notes.

I suppose that any references that you may have to other URLs on this topic would be great - where did you get the info? Also, maybe you could email the organisers (it is Percona guys who were running it, right?) telling them that there are people looking for the presentation - that would be good too.

I’m exploring this very topic at the moment and I would like to get the commands that you used to get down to the (nitty gritty :slight_smile: ) of the disk &c…, but I don’t have any specific questions or commands at the moment - just remember thinking that I must go through that slowly in my own time!

I enjoyed it anyway, and hope to have the opportunity to see it again.

Thanks for that guys - really appreciate that this was done - it’s good to see that Percona is a company which is interested in more than just simply gouging revenue out of people - you are interested in spreading knowledge about Open Source also! Kudos! Also @Charly_Batista @daniil.bazhenov
