Apt Repo Support for Ubuntu 22.04

Hello Percona Community,

Does anyone know if or when the Percona Apt repo might start supporting the new Ubuntu LTS release 22.04?

We will begin releasing products for 22.04 once it is actually GA (next month) and our relative upstreams have released their own versions and we have merged them down. We basically match our upstreams and repo support version for version.

Hello Percona Team!

Any updates regarding the date of availability of Percona products for the latest Ubuntu? It’s almost a month since 22.04LTS is GA.

Hi George, might you have an approximate ETA for when Percona MySQL Server will be ready to install on Ubuntu 22.04? Thanks very much, Tarik

As I said above, we offer support it after Oracle does. We are a downstream from Oracle MySQL Community and will always trail their work. Oracle just released their second quarter offerings (5.7.38 and 8.0.29) with no support yet so we will be looking for it in the third quarter releases (5.7.39 and 8.0.30). In the meanwhile, we may release some packages in our testing repo that support it but these would not be supported for use in production environments as there is no promise of package and upgrade compatibility with whatever Oracle releases. This is not only for Ubuntu 22.04 but also applies to RHEL 9.

Hi George and the Percona Team,

Is there a revised timeline for this support please?

We are planning internal roadmaps and would like to know is Q3 is still likely, or if this has been delayed…

Many thanks.

As of today, Oracle has not yet released their 3rd quarter series, so we do not yet know if they will support Debian 11 and Ubuntu 22.04 yet. We are expecting it any day. If they have added support for the new platforms, we will inherit that with our own amendments and it will appear in our successive releases of the same versions of Percona Server which for 8.0 series will actually likely be released closer to the 4th quarter.

As Oracle have 22.04 support now, any news on when it’ll filter through to Percona?

I’ve just run across this issue too. Can’t install ps80 or ps57.

I’m not sure if there is a way (using percona-release to see what is available for Ubuntu 22.04?

Hi George and the Percona Team,
It seems like there has been upstream Oracle support for MySQL 8.0+ on Ubuntu 22.04 for quite a few weeks now.
This might have been adequate time to plan sprints and development effort, so just wondering if there’s a high level timeline for when Percona Server might release compatible binaries yet?

As we’re in the final days of the 3rd Quarter, I’m hoping you’ll finish testing the new builds soon!

I haven’t seen anything in the public Deb repos yet - are you testing them in a private repo somewhere?

Any update guys?
Appreciated!

We now have four customers with builds that are stalled waiting for Percona to support Ubuntu 22.04. If it gets to mid November we’ll have to start recommending they jump to an alternative :frowning:

Percona Server, XtraBackup, and XtraDBluster will be available for Ubuntu 22.04 with the 8.0.30 series releases. These are now currently expected at the end of October or November.

Waiting as well to spawn two new Ubuntu 22 dedicated servers

Do you guys think the very first release will be reliable to be used in production or should we wait for the first update? (meaning a couple of months)

I see above that there is mention about 8.0 being supported now for 22.04 but no mention of the followup on 5.7. Is this still in progress ? or has 5.7 been dropped for 22.04 ?

Oracle has not added support for Ubuntu 22.04 to MySQL Community 5.7 as it is going to become End Of Life this time next year. We inherit this work from Oracle MySQL Community. At this point we have decided not to undertake this effort and liability ourselves since the EOL date is only 4 releases away. You should consider your upgrade path to 8.0. Once 5.7 reaches EOL in October 2023 there will be no more releases, security updates or platform additions to the 5.7 series whatsoever. This also extends to Percona XtraDB Cluster 5.7 and Percona XtraBackup 2.4 series.
