Using innobackupex to restore a single database

Hi ,
We are currently hosting a 3-node Percona xtradb cluster environment in one of our client environments. We have configured for daily full backups using innobackupex and also running mysqldumps on the secondary. The main reason to have mysqldumps was with the intention if we need to restore just a single database.
I have done fair bit of research and found that with innobackupex we can only restore single table or all the databases from the hotbackup copies which innobackupex creates.

Please can you correct me if I am wrong here and also please suggest we could you innobackupex to do single database restores.

Percona has a guide on using Xtrabackup to restore individual tables:

However it will often be easier to do it with mysqldump unless the table size is prohibitively large. But even then, I would look into a parallel mysqldump / parallel import setup instead.
