New percona cluster

Setting up a new Percona cluster in test environment. I have installed percona xtrabackup as well as percona xtradb cluster. Now i’m about to configure our my.cnf files for the 3 SQL servers we have. I am copying one from our production percona cluster as a template and modifying IP’s/Clustername/Password for SST. Outside of those items. is there anything else I would want to change? Should I also recreate or change the Server_id or will it not matter since it’s in a diff environment and diff set of IP’s?

You don’t need to change the server id’s since this is a different set of servers.

Does the ID only make a difference if you wanted to say add a SQL server into the same cluster? Then you would want to make sure my.cnf file had same ServerID? is that how that would come into play? Because just thinking about it, I do have another cluster in test with same server ID. But if the IP’s are different, then it probably isn’t going to matter?

Think about each cluster as a different room. If there’s a “Bob” (server_id) in each room, no confusion. But if you have multiple “Bob” in the same room, then there’s confusion. You could have 1000 3-node clusters all using server_ids 1, 2, 3 and there’d be no issues because the clusters don’t talk to eachother

Gotcha. So, there really isn’t any worry. Thank you for that clarification.
