@Ramasamy,
As a Percona employee, I was recently engaged with a client that had Solarwinds installed so I can give you some firsthand experience. The biggest difference you’ll find is that PMM is free/open-source and gives all of the same data that SW does. SW is not very in-depth when it comes to deep technical aspects of monitoring. PMM was designed by DBAs for DBAs. SW was designed by marketing people for DBAs. At the surface, you’ll find the same info in both. But for deep level analysis, you’ll want PMM. Also, for security, PMM is located in your environment where SW is cloud-based (data leaves your control).
Thank you very much Mathews! Your expertise on this really helps me.
We are in the process of evaluating these two tools and provide fair anaysis report to the client. Since my client already has the license for SW, can you please help me to provide some pros and cons of these two tools? Appreciate your help.
SW Pros: Run in cloud, no server to maintain, provides mysql analysis
SW Cons: Expensive $$ Cost, runs in cloud (privacy issues)
PMM Pro: Free, runs in your environment, provides more in-depth mysql analysis
PMM Con: Maintain PMM server (hardly a con, set it up once and forget it)
Thank you very much Mathews! Any comparison details of different types of Metrics?
You’ll find PMM shows many, many more metrics than SW. Again, PMM was made by DBAs for DBAs, so you’ll see e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g in PMM.
