I have had a difficult time figuring out if fileCopyBased initialSyncMethod is supported in Percona Server for MongoDB. I know this is feature specific to MongoDB Enterprise.
I actually tried enabling this on a secondary node in mongod.conf under “setParameter” but it still shows the initial sync is logical.
Percona Server for MongoDB doesn’t YET support File Copy-based initial sync. The first version that will support this init sync is 7.0.22-12 - planned to be released July 27 (next week). We’ll follow supporting it in 8.0 as well - about mid-August 2025. We don’t plan to release it for 6.0 and older.
Hey that is awesome! Is this expected to increase initial sync efficiency from large databases?
Can you also share a brief high level use case for why someone would use File Copy-based initial sync over logical?
It would be exceptionally helpful if a File Copy-based configured secondary was able to initially sync from a very large live primary while giving the ability to decrease initial sync time.
If I understood it correctly the FCBIS is available only in Pro build.
I can’t just use image: percona/percona-server-mongodb:7.0.22-12 in my CR.yaml and expect it to use FCBIS. Am I right?
You’re right. But I have good news to you. Starting from the next release of PSMDB - 7.0.26-14 will contain all features including FCBIS. This will be available within the next two weeks. Observe our release notes page for 7.0
