innobackupex --defaults-extra-file=/etc/mysql/my.cnf --host=localhost --password= --socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock /mnt/tempbackup/

rsynced to the replication box:
rsync -avz --progress

restoring:
innobackupex --copy-back /mnt/tempdisk/

The DB size is 120GB, could that be a problem?

With 1 and 2 GB database size I was able to set up the replication with xtrabackup help.
