This request can be closed. I got it to work by going back to the rsync method and forcing galera-6 to use just galera-1 as the donor. Something with rsync and the new 3 nodes (4-6) wasn’t happy. When the original 3 servers are decomissioned, I will change all the servers to use innobackup or mariabackup.
