Backup, prepare, copy/move

Hi,
pertaining to backup and recovery in environment that has master and slave replication.
the backup is performed in slave node.
In the event when a restore and recovery is required, “Prepare” command will need to be executed on the directory where the backup contains.
There is not much write up on where this “Prepare” command should be executed, in the master or slave node ?
Assuming the backup directory is being copied to the targeted node where the restore is to take place, do I then perform the “Prepare” command on the targeted node ?
Or the “Prepare” command has to be executed from the Source node (where the backup has taken place) as a correct procedure ?

Thanks, hope someone can share on this.

Hi @ctseah ,

If I understand your question correct, you want to know if you can copy the backup to target server without having it prepared, is that right?

Than been the case, the answer is yes, you can copy the unprepared backup to any server and execute the prepare operation on the target server. You just need to pay attention and make sure the version of xtrabackup on target server is the same as source server(where the backup took place).

Hi Marcelo Altmann,

Does that apply to whether the instance concerned is involved in replication topology or an instance not involved in replication ?

It applies to all cases.
