# Pt-online-schema-change suggestions

Good day, All.

pt-online-schema-change is an excellent toll widely used/recognized in industry.

I would like to make some suggestions both relating to Timed out:

1. check and ensure no transaction on the table which the tool is going to alter before “Creating triggers”.
2. check and ensure no transaction on the table before Swap and Drop tables.

suggestion 2 is even more important: I spend many hours copying data from table to \_table\_new and later got error: Timed out and whole mission failed (and need to start over again).

Hope this makes sense.
