# MySQL 8.4 - High memory consumption

Thanks. I see their reply. Did you run 5.7 on this same machine, with same operating system? Or did you also upgrade OS?

5.7 was in Ubuntu version 22

jemalloc is certainly a good thing. PS detects if this is installed. I don’t like messing with OOM score because that’s more of a band-aid than fixing the issue.

I did the tests and now the memory is being freed.

Shouldn’t this already be the Installation default?

Not all workloads are the same, not all OS is the same, etc. jemalloc does not fix 100% of issues.

Using jemalloc the problem was solved.
