# config file does not work as expected

As per MySQL doc (PS and PXC inherit upstream semantics)

[\*]On thread startup, the session [wait\_timeout](https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/server-system-variables.html#sysvar_wait_timeout) value is initialized from the global [wait\_timeout](https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/server-system-variables.html#sysvar_wait_timeout) value or from the global[interactive\_timeout](https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/server-system-variables.html#sysvar_interactive_timeout) value, depending on the type of client (as defined by the CLIENT\_INTERACTIVE connect option to [mysql\_real\_connect()](https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/mysql-real-connect.html)). [/LIST] this means wait\_timeout value is defined by global wait\_timeout or interactive\_timout value.

I tried setting checking for client terminal (mysql) and given that it is an interactive terminal, session inherited interactive\_timeout

[setting in my.cnf]  
wait\_timeout=86400  
interactive\_timeout=1000000

mysql\> select @@global.interactive\_timeout;  
±-----------------------------+  
| @@global.interactive\_timeout |  
±-----------------------------+  
| 1000000 |  
±-----------------------------+  
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql\> select @@session.interactive\_timeout;  
±------------------------------+  
| @@session.interactive\_timeout |  
±------------------------------+  
| 1000000 |  
±------------------------------+  
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql\> select @@global.wait\_timeout;  
±----------------------+  
| @@global.wait\_timeout |  
±----------------------+  
| 86400 |  
±----------------------+  
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql\> select @@session.wait\_timeout;  
±-----------------------+  
| @@session.wait\_timeout |  
±-----------------------+  
| 1000000 |  
±-----------------------+  
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
