Using SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS vs SELECT COUNT(*)

roushenasroushenas Active Member Contributor
It was in 2006 I heard about SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS from @elektronaut, followed by @Peter comment. Since then, a lot of improvement being happened for MySQL. Considering concerns about indices, I am curious if using COUNT(*) is still faster than using SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS.
Any thought?

    Dear @roushenas
I asked my colleagues at Percona and they find it difficult to answer because it's been a long time since anyone has checked this.
Perhaps you can check, take measurements, and share it with us.
